It’s Patriot’s Day in Boston and We’re Helping Out Fort Benning
Apr 15, 2019Today is Patriots Day in Boston. It also feels like spring as its getting warmer and raining. Good luck to the runner’s in the Boston Marathon too. The primary event associated with Patriots Day is the Boston Marathon, which will be run for the 123rd time in 2019. The oldest continuously held annual marathon in the world draws both competitive runners and spectators.
Also each year in mid-April, thousands of people flock to historic Lexington and Concord and Minute Man National Historical Park to celebrate Patriots’ Day. Patriots Day is a special Massachusetts State holiday commemorating the opening battle of the American Revolutionary War, April 19, 1775.
We’re reminded of the First Responders and Military during this day in Boston. It’s been six years since the tragic bombings at the finish line of the 2013 Boston Marathon, and those who died and were injured that day continue to inspire others to run.
Recently we were privileged enough to help out the people in Fort Benning Georgia at the Environmental and Energy Learning Center.
The U.S. Army Garrison Fort Benning Directorate of Public Works recently installed a this Smartflower at their Environmental Learning Center just south of the Benning Road gate at Fort Benning, Georgia. The 2.5-kilowatt solar array converts sunlight into direct current electricity via photovoltaic cells and maintains effective collection by tracking the sun throughout the day and brushing itself clear of dust when it folds up at night.
We were down there last week to service it and got to know some of the civilians and soldiers and the kind of work they’re doing for the US. Sustainable practices in building and remodeling is important to the Army as well and we’re proud to be a small part of it.
